While the Nebraska football team has focused on rebuilding the coaching staff, it's clear that at least part of the work this winter will be figuring out the quarterback situation. Things are more complicated with the firing of offensive line coach Donovan Raiola. In the wake of his uncle's firing, could Dylan Raiola be on his way out of Lincoln?
The knee-jerk reaction to the question of Raiola transferring is that it seems very likely this year, especially with brother Dayton decommitting from the Huskers just two weeks before signing day.
The rumors are only going to get louder after Chris Hummer of CBS Sports doubled down on an earlier report that the Nebraska quarterback is thinking hard about hitting the transfer portal.
Nebraska football navigates rising quarterback uncertainty after coaching shakeup
"As CBS Sports previously reported, there's some concern in Lincoln about Raiola's future with the program. Those in Raiola's camp strongly considered the portal last offseason, and that's the case again ahead of the winter portal window."
Hummer isn't wrong that the quarterback was at least checking out if the grass was greener elsewhere. However, in the end, he decided to return to NU for his sophomore year.
What is clear is that at least right now, Raiola is not on his way out, even if he's looking to see what he might fetch in the transfer portal when it opens on January 2. Some around the Huskers program feel as though the quarterback might not see the kind of monetary offers he's looking for and might instead decide to return for one more year in Lincoln.
Others think the rise of TJ Lateef has made Dylan Raiola decide to leave Nebraska and that the firing of Donovan Raiola was a sign that the entire family is moving on from the program.
