While the Nebraska football team is still trying to fight off USC and stop the Trojans from taking Mike Ekeler, there was another shift on the coaching staff that went under the radar. Head coach Matt Rhule went out and got another defensive backs coach to help Rob Aurich and Addison Williams rebuild a unit that had some serious ups and downs in 2025. There's an added bonus that Miles Taylor is a former Hawkeye and can bring some of Iowa's defensive culture to Lincoln.

Taylor will NU's NU's staff and help with the safeties, Rhule confirmed in an interview on the Zach Gelb Show earlier this week. Taylor spent five seasons at South Dakota, some of which coincided with Aurich's time with the team.

Taylor coached the Coyotes' secondary for five seasons. He was promoted to co-defensive coordinator last January. However, he eventually decided to take an NFL coaching fellowship with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025. Now he lands with Nebraska.

As a player, Taylor was a four-year letter winner for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He played in 50 career games for Kirk Ferentz's program, starting 32 while totaling 169 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a half-sack, 5 pass breakups, and an interception.

After his playing career, Taylor joined Iowa's staff as a graduate assistant for the 2018 season.

Taylor is just the latest addition to the Nebraska football team's staff this winter. He joins Aurich, rush edges coach Roy Manning from San Diego State, and defensive line coach Corey Brown from Miami (Ohio).
