While most of Nebraska football's focus long ago turned to the Akron game and is leaving the Thursday night opener in the past, there is one thing the Huskers need to pay attention to in order to avoid similar mistakes. Offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen is well aware of how many points NU left on the field, and he pointed that out in his weekly press conference. Specifically, the new OC is looking for better efficiency in the red-zone offense.

Holgorsen started his comments by calling out Elijah Pritchett's false start near the goal line that seemingly handed the Huskers a field goal instead of a touchdown early in the game. However, he quickly pivoted to the idea that the team needed to overcome that penalty and score the touchdown anyway.

Dana Holgorsen unhappy with Nebraska football’s red-zone offense vs. Cincinnati

"You know, the one time that we had to kick the field goal down there, it's unacceptable to every level known to anybody that's watching it," the Nebraska coach said. "You can't jump off sideways. That's been addressed, okay? But even if it's first and five and a half. You've got three plays to be able to punch that thing in, and all I talk about is finishing drives with touchdowns."

"I don't ever want to kick a field goal," Holgorsen continued. "That goal is at about 70%. We were 66 (percent in the redzone), so happy with the two (scores) but wasn't happy with the one. It's just a lack of execution, three plays in a row. Lack of execution, three plays in a row. Had to kick the field goal."

Holgorsen's comments show an offensive coordinator who doesn't accept "good enough." He's been that way his whole career.

The Nebraska football team will have plenty of time to focus on fixing what went wrong against Cincinnati. They'll be looking to go 100% in the red zone against Akron on Saturday night.
