Nebraska football fans take a lot of grief in the offseason for being perpetually optimistic about how their team will do in the fall. But it’s worth pointing out that it’s not always Husker fans who think the Cornhuskers are going to be quite impressive once the season starts.

Earlier this week Nebraska was ranked in the top 25 of Andy Staples' College Football Post-Spring Rankings. It’s the first time since the Scott Frost era that the Huskers have really gotten this kind of love from a major national analyst. They were ranked 22nd overall.

Nebraska football lands in Andy Staples’ post-spring Top 25 rankings

In general, The Big Ten was well-represented in Staples’ rankings. Michigan came in at 17th overall, while Illinois came in ninth overall. Oregon finished sixth in the rankings, while Ohio State came in fifth. Penn State was the highest-ranked out of all the Big Ten teams in the poll, coming in at No. 4 on the list. While the Nebraska football team was at the bottom of the rankings, they did slot in ahead of No. 25 Iowa.

In order to get into and stay in the rankings, the Huskers are going to need to take advantage of a weak schedule to open the year and then get at least a win or two in upset towards the backend of the 2025 season.

It’s also worth noting that Staples’ rankings dont’ mean much of anything. However it does mean that the Nebraska football season is ticking ever closer as fall camp will essentially start three months from today.
