Nebraska could be in store to get some good news shortly after the start of the new year in 2026. Head coach Mat Rhule has been on a bit of a hot streak when it comes to recruiting for the Class of 2026. Other than one de-commitment, the Cornhuskers have been able to score some big commitments, giving them the No. 5 class for 2027.
That ranking could get even better if the Cornhuskers are able to get a commitment from four-star running back Xavier Bala. According to Rivals, Bala is supposed to announce his commitment on January 10.

According to 247Sports, Bala is currently projected to pick the Cornhuskers over a solid list of schools. Right now, Bala's final list of schools is Nebraska, Ohio State, Virginia, Maryland, Syracuse, and Boston College. So it will be either the Big Ten or the ACC for the young running back.
Right now, Rivals Industry rankings have Bala as a four-star recruit ranked No. 292 in the Class of 2027, the No. 22 running back in the class, and the No. 2 player in the state of New York.
This would be a great pick-up for the future of Nebraska's run game. With Emmett Johnson heading to the NFL, the run game for the Cornhuskers is about to take a big hit. While Bala would not get in the building until 2027, he could have the opportunity to become an immediate starter, depending on who Nebraska brings in for 2026.
The Cornhuskers will be anxiously awaiting the news of Bala's announcement, but as they get ready for the Las Vegas Bowl, Rhule's sights are set on bringing home one last win this season.
