Trying to hire a very good and accomplished coach when your program doesn't really value, or really can't value a sport can be tricky. A Nebraska Cornhuskers rival learned that the hard way and was catching some flack for it online.
Meanwhile, Will Bolt continues to be totally without answers and it's possible that his Nebraska baseball team simply isn't as good as many (including Big Ten media) thought it would be after a surprisingly good campaign in 2024.
Nebraska Cornhuskers rival coach compared to Adam Gase
The Wisconsin Badgers women's basketball team hired a new coach on Tuesday afternoon and to say that fans were a bit underwhelmed might be an understatement. Robin Pingeton will take over a historically awful program, and because of that it makes sense for Badgers fans to see how this goes.
On the other hand, Pingeton just resigned (likely fired) from Missouri less than a month ago after posting a 79-99 record over the last six seasons. Hiring a coach who struggled mightily at her old school led more than a few Wisconsin fans to make a less than glowing comparisons.
When 247Sports writer Evan Flood posted that he didn't know much about women's hoops and wondered what this kind of hire was like the responses were that it was like hiring former NFL head coach Ryan Gase right after the New York Jets years.
I know nothing about women's hoops.

Explain this to me in NFL terms. https://t.co/YiJ6WEaXMe
In other words, there's not a ton of love for the hire precisely because she hasn't had anything resembling success lately.
Baseball gets thumped by Kansas State again
Remember that fun game where Jackson Brocket threw a no-hitter against Kansas State last year? A less fun tidbit about the non-conference rivalry with the Wildcats is that since that game, the Huskers are 0-2 against their former Big 8 and Big 12 rivals and have allowed an average of 10.5 runs per contest.
On Tuesday night, a season that simply hasn't gone anywhere near as well as was expected (sound familiar Nebrasketball fans?) took another wrong turn. The Huskers were pouned into submission 12-8 by KSU.
Worse than the final score is that the game was essentially over after 3 innings as Kansas State scored 5 in the first and 4 in the second before adding 2 in the third to take an 11-3 lead. Making things worse, defensive miscues - something that has been a real problem in 2025 - meant that while Carson Jasa didn't have his best stuff, obviously, only three of the eight runs he was tagged with, were earned.
The loss drops Nebraska to 10-14 on the season. This weekend, they take on No. 5 Oregon State so things are rather gloomy in Lincoln right now.
