It wasn’t enough that the Nebraska Cornhuskers opened the 2026 season against UNLV in a dominating win. The Huskers are one of those programs that everyone wants to see up close and personal. That’s why they were invited to the Spikes Under the Lights tournament. It’s also why NFL Hall of Famer Tom Brady was in attendance for NU’s season opener on Saturday night.
- It’s not as though Brady flew halfway across the country to see the match. The ex-Tampa Bay Buc and New England Patriot is now a part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. Safe bet he was in town to talk to the front office and coaches about who the team will cut on Sunday when the deadline to get down to 53 players comes into effect. Still, the HOFer took time out of his busy schedule to watch the Huskers play. He even took time out to chat with several Big Red stars, including Harper Murray and former Husker Lexi Rodriguez.

Nebraska Cornhuskers commit has a massive Friday night
- The Huskers are very excited to get Trae Taylor onto the roster, and the Millard South quarterback showed just why they’re so excited on Friday night. He led his new high school team against bitter rival Millard North in what was quite the comeback. Through the air, Taylor completed just 16 of 31 passes, but he did manage to tally 311 yards and two TDs. He also threw an interception. He also carried the ball 23 times for 101 yards and another two scores. It was quite the debut for Taylor with his new team.
- The Big Ten is rolling out a new injury report policy for the 2026 season. This time, the conference will have four reports a week. The first one will come out four days before the Big Ten teams play. Then there will be a report every day after, with the last one coming out two hours before the game.
- While Trae Taylor had a great Friday, Adrian Martinez had a very tough Saturday. The San Francisco 49ers cut the former Nebraska football star. Not only was he cut, but considering it’s the second time the 49ers have done it, it’s entirely possible that he could be out of the NFL. At least for a little while. It doesn’t help that Martinez had a rough preseason, completing just 53% of his passes for only one touchdown and 2 interceptions.
