The Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team has shifted back into “dominance” mode. The Huskers beat the Illinois Fighting Illini for the second time this season. And for the second time this season, they did it in straight sets. It also happens to be the second time this month.
NU won the first matchup on October 3, three sets to none. Much like tonight there was one set where the Illini managed to put up a fight. However, like tonight, they lost despite putting up a fight. Earlier this month, it was 25-18, 25-22, 25-17. Tonight it was 25-17, 25-19, 28-26.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have now gone two full weeks since they lost a set. That’s four matches that went three sets to none. It was also the 16th straight victory.
Nebraska Cornhuskers dominant fourth straight match
The match was the second — and possibly last college match — to have sisters Bergen Reilly (Nebraska) and Raegen Reilly (Illinois) play against each other.
When Raegen Reilly entered the match for the first time early in the first set she got a big ovation, and family members took video of her taking the court against her sister in Lincoln. It was just last year when Raegen Reilly was a spectator at the Devaney Center for five matches to support her sister.
The Huskers keep their share of first place in the Big Ten with the victory as they are 19-1 on the season and 9-0 in the conference. They’ll look to go 10-0 tomorrow night when the Nebraska Cornhuskers take on the Michigan Wolverines (16-4, 6-3). An upset loss to SMU is NU’s only blemish so far this year.
