The Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team has lost exactly one set since September 16. On Friday evening, the Huskers logged yet another sweep, only this one was special. This one clinched the sole ownership of a Big Ten title.
NU walloped Penn State in straight sets, 25-14, 25-11, 25-14. It was a measure of revenge for the Huskers, who lost to the Nittany Lions in a reverse sweep last year in the national semifinals.
When the Nebraska Cornhuskers take on Ohio State on Saturday, they'll be looking to finish the regular season a perfect 30-0. What's impressive about the possibility of finishing the season unbeaten is that they've seemingly started playing some of their best volleyball as the campaign comes to a close. That's good news for NU and bad news for everyone hoping to beat them for the National Title.
Matt Rhule puts himself on blast after Iowa loss
While the volleyball team could finish the regular season undefeated, the Nebraska football team is far from perfect. They lost on Friday afternoon to Iowa 40-16 to finish 7-5. In the last two games, the Huskers have been outscored 77-26, and fans are pretty unhappy with the state of the program.
Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule understands people aren't happy with how his squad finished the campaign. After the game, he made it clear he wanted any anger directed at him.
"I understand that times like this can be a little bit negative and I have to say honestly that should all be directed at me."
More Nebraska Cornhuskers news
- The Huskers were clearly not happy at the way they finished the regular season. None was unhappier than star running back Emmett Johnson, who amassed more than 200 total yards against the Hawkeyes. While he was leaving the field, he was pretty emotional. That makes sense, considering it could be how he finishes his Husker career.
- The loss was plenty frustrating but it is possible the Nebraska Cornhuskers could get a recruiting win out of the deal. NU hosted a surprise visitor in Oregon commit Devin Jackson, who is a Top 100 player in the 2026 class according to 247Sports. Considering how small NU's class is, if Rhule could pull off a flip, it would be huge.
