The Nebraska Cornhuskers football team is very close to locking down its new staff. Rob Aurich was hired as defensive coordinator this weekend, and now he's brought over one of his assistants from San Diego State.

Roy Manning is reportedly joining the Huskers at the same position he had with the Aztecs. He'll officially be the rush edges coach. That indicates that NU will hire someone to coach the defensive tackles, though that could depend on whether the right target is willing to take the job.

Creighton does its part for a finals matchup with the Nebraska Cornhuskers

The team that came the closest to beating the Nebraska Cornhuskers this season is making a run through the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. On Thursday afternoon, the Blue Jays knocked off Arizona State 3 sets to 1, with the final two sets looking like a blowout.

CU is on the other end of the bracket, and if both they and the Cornhuskers win out, they would face each other in the finals. NCAA heads would explode if the championship match were an all-Nebraska faceoff. NU faces Kansas on Friday to advance to the Sweet 16, while Creighton will have to overcome a No. 1 seed in Kentucky in the Elite 8 for both to keep moving.

  • TJ Lateef isn't guaranteed to start in the Las Vegas Bowl for the Huskers but with several more weeks until that game and Lateef recovering quicker than the coaching staff expected, there's at least some hope that the freshman will be back on the field against No. 15 Utah.
  • While Nebraska hopes that its offensive staff rebuild is now complete with the hire of Geep Wade and Lonnie Teasley, there is some worry that Texas might come calling for EJ Barthel. This same concern hit Rhule's staff last year, but he wasn't hired. Could the second time be the charm?
