Entering a season where expectations for the Nebraska basketball team might never have been higher, the Huskers haven't been at their best in their first two exhibition games. Of course, no one should expect them to be at their best before the season even starts.

  • Still, in the second straight exhibition game, Nebraska led at halftime and struggled down the stretch. This time, BYU got the win. The Cougars outscored the Huskers 44-29 in the second half to win 72-61.
  • Part of the reason Nebraska struggled in the second half so badly is that head coach Fred Hoiberg still sees exhibition games as a way to get his bench more action, while the Cougars were going for the win. The Cougars were going for the win so hard that they put in their starters in the final moments in order to cement the win against the Cornhuskers backups.
  • It wasn't all about unfairness, though. The Nebraska Cornhuskers turned the ball over 18 times on Friday. In a 79-74 loss to Saint Louis, Hoiberg's squad turned it over 12 times. They'll get one more exhibition game to show things are coming together on October 26 against Kansas State before starting the regular season against LeMoyne on November 2.

More Nebraska Cornhuskers News

  • Nebraska has a massive showdown on Saturday night at 10 pm against Oregon. On Friday night, the Ducks let it slip that third-string quarterback Brock Thomas will start after relieving a benched Dylan Raiola last week.
  • The Big Ten availability report offered some interesting tidbits about the Ducks. Not only is starting quarterback Dante Moore out for the game, but leading wide receiver Evan Stewart is doubtful and trending toward missing the game.
  • On Friday night, Washington faced Purdue to open this week's Big Ten slate. The Huskies won 38-26, but the bigger story might be quarterback Elijah Brown, who started for injured QB Demond Williams. Brown lit up the scoreboard, completing 21 of 27 passes for just over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns.
  • This is especially interesting because the Huskies' next opponent is the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The game, back in Lincoln, comes after both teams get their bye, and while Brown played well, he also threw three interceptions and dismantled a Purdue defense that hasn't stopped anyone this year.
  • Will the Huskers face Williams or Brown on Halloween? No one knows yet, including Washington, but the Nebraska Cornhuskers should prepare for the junior, given how much Williams has struggled.
  • The Nebraska volleyball team remains undefeated this season and will take on No. 13 Purdue in Lincoln on Saturday afternoon. It's not just that the Huskers haven't lost yet this year; it's been a while since they lost a set.
  • The Nebraska Cornhuskers have won 25 straight sets since September 20. FGCU won the third set of their match against the Huskers. It appears that was quite the wakeup call. Dani Busboom Kelly's squad has been quite the juggernaut ever since.
