At the 2026 U.S. National Championships for swimming, Gena Jorgenson completed her time with the Nebraska Cornhuskers with five school records and five personal best marks. Hosted at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center in Irvine, Calif., Jorgenson was joined by Big Red teammate Riley Miklos. The rising junior from Richmond, Va., Miklos, qualified based on her times at the Speedo Sectionals in Colombia from mid-July.
- Jorgenson began her long course success with her swim in the 800m free on Tuesday, where she accomplished her best placing of second with a finals time of 8:31.18. In her other timed race, the 1500m free, Jorgenson finished third. Her time of 16:12.73 was a 1.14-second improvement on her previous mark set at the TYR Pro Series in June. In the 400m free, Jorgenson notched a seventh-place final swim with a time of 4:10.33. She took the next school-best marks in the 200m back with a 19th-place time of 2:12.36 and the 400m IM with a time of 4:47.35.

- Among the potential weapons the Huskers will have at their disposal this year, starting tight end Luke Lindenmeyer says that Carter Nelson and Luke Sorensen are going to be special. Both young players are still coming into their own, but Lindenmeyer is raving about what he’s seen this spring and summer. “He can do it all,” Lindenmeyer said of Nelson, who’s now listed at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds during Big Ten Media Days earlier this week. “It sucked that he’s had surgeries every offseason he’s been here — hindering his development — but ever since he’s been cleared, he’s been taking off. He’s a great player. With him having the last two years to understand the plays a little bit better, he’s going to have a great year.”
- Fred Hoiberg talked last week about the way the Nebraska basketball team has been sorting itself out. While he likes the talent, he doesn’t like how quiet things have been during practices so far. The Husker head coach said he hopes things get a bit louder in the coming weeks.
- Troy Dannen spoke during Big Ten Media Days about the chance of a 24-team College Football Playoff coming. He said that when it does, not only will the conference not have a championship game, but the teams in the B1G will also play 10 conference games, should all this come to pass.
