Nebraska Cornhuskers star named Big Ten defensive player of the week
A Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball player won a Big Ten award earlier this week. Sophomore middle blocker Andi Jackson was named the conference’s defensive player of the week for the first time in her career.
It almost certainly won’t be the last. Of course, there’s no guarantee it will be the last even for this season.
Jackson averaged 1.57 blocks per set in wins over the Illinois Fighting Illini and Michigan Wolverines. She also had 3.00 kills per set on .417 hitting for the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team that won both matches and continues one heck of a hot streak.

In both matches of the week, the middle blocker showed off why she won the award. In the win on Friday over Illinois, she had six blocks and 11 kills on .667 hitting. She then had five blocks and ten kills in Saturday’s victory over Michigan.
Those particular performances are a nice blast of confidence just as the Huskers prep for a very big weekend. In fact, it’s a weekend that may go a long way towards helping NU clinch the Big Ten.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team is 20-1 overall on the season and 10-0 in the Big Ten Conference. They have won 17 straight matches since their crazy 3-0 upset defeat to SMU on September 3.
The Huskers take the floor again on Friday, November 1. They’ll be going to take on a biggie at the Wisconsin Badgers. The match will start at 8:00 p.m. CT and can be seen on Big Ten Network.
