After a massive win over Kansas State, the Nebraska basketball team is starting to look like a legitimate NCAA Tournament team. It's also looking like a team that isn't going to stop winning any time soon. In fact, according to ESPN, the nation's longest winning streak will continue right up until the Huskers take on Illinois in their second Big Ten game.
That's noteworthy for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is that it would mean NU will topple Creighton when they face off against the Blue Jays on December 7.
The series between Nebraska and Creighton has long been a one-sided rivalry. However, since Fred Hoiberg arrived in Lincoln, things have shifted a bit. Last year, the Huskers beat then No. 14 Creighton by 11 points.
Nebraska basketball could get off to 10-0 start heading to Illinois
In the 2022-23 campaign, NU posted a 63-53 victory over CU. Now, ESPN has Fred Hoiberg's team with a 66.9% chance of winning next month. If they did pull that off, it would be the first time Nebraska has logged consecutive wins over Creighton in more than 25 years.
But it's not just about Creighton and what that win would mean. There's also the run that Huskers are expected to go on as they start the year 10-0 before running into Illinois on the road.
That's the kind of start that will give Hoiberg's squad a resume that will have people talking about going dancing in March. There's already a resume that could have Nebraska close to the Top 25 after this weekend. Should they start 10-0, they'll absolutely be ranked.
And considering that the start would include a win over current No. 23 Wisconsin, it could mean that Nebraska is starting a march to prove doubters wrong in the Big Ten.
