After a 20-0 start to the season that had them considered one of the best teams in the country, the Nebraska basketball team has been decidedly average over its last 12 games. The Huskers have struggled so much, especially in two of their last three games, that some fans were worried the team might drop out of the 3 seed line they've inhabited for a good portion of 2026. The good news is that even after a blowout loss in their one-and-done appearance in the Big Ten tournament, NU looks like they'll hold onto a 3 seed and head to Oklahoma City for the Big Dance.
Should those two situations unfold later on Sunday evening, it would be the best possible outcome after a 6-6 finish to the regular season has some folks rattled. While there are some outliers, most bracketologists have NU in the best possible position for success during March Madness.
With Nebraska entering Selection Sunday ranked No. 13 in the NET, No. 14 in KenPom, and No. 17 from Bart Torvik, it looks like the Huskers' record vs Quad 1 and Quad 2 teams is a big bonus. Sitting at No. 11 in the Wins Above Bubble rankings, NU is 15-6 against Q1 & Q2 teams while not posting a single loss to Q3 or Q4 programs.
Nebraska basketball's Quad 1 and Quad 2 record is the reason a rough finish didn't cost the Huskers their seed
The vast majority of Bracketologists have the Cornhuskers headed to Oklahoma City. That's long been the place NU fans wanted the team to try and not only win the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament win, but possibly make a deep run.
Those same Bracketologists are overwhelmingly picking the Huskers to be the No. 3 seed in OKC, and quite a few of them think they'll face off against UC Irvine in the first round. Though ESPN's Joe Lunardi believes the 14 seed Nebraska will face will be Hawaii instead.
It won't be long now until Nebraska finds out its official fate, but it doesn't appear their struggles of late or limping into Selection Sunday have hurt much.
