While the Nebraska football team tries to figure out what's going on with its defense, the Huskers' former coordinator has spent most of the season wondering if he'll still be in Tallahassee in 2026.
Tony White jumped ship from the Huskers to the Florida State Seminoles last winter, and he took defensive line coach Terrance Knighton with him. The pair, alongside the FSU head coach, are in the midst of another disappointing season for the ACC school. However, despite a 21-11 loss to North Carolina, the school announced on Sunday that Mike Norvell will be retained.
Now the question has to be asked. Can the former Nebraska coaches catch a ride on that lifeboat? Or will there be a couple of deck chairs moved around on the Titanic?
Ex-Nebraska coaches are in the middle of the Mike Norvell drama
Florida State fans are far from happy that Norvell is coming back. He might need to offer up some sacrificial lambs as a way to tamp down the fans' frustration.
Neither White nor Knighton seems like someone who should get the blame. Florida State's defense is in the Top 50 in major defensive categories. At the same time, both coaches came over from Nebraska with a lot of hype. They haven't really been able to duplicate that hype.
Some FSU fans have also publicly wondered if White might be aiming for a head coaching job, rather than focusing on his current position.
This situation will certainly be one to watch as the winter goes on. Especially if Florida State loses its final game of the season and finishes with a losing record. If that happens, all bets are off and the two former Nebraska coaches might be looking for new jobs yet again.
