Nebraska fans everywhere have taken a collective sigh of relief as the news broke that Matt Rhule signed an extension with the Cornhuskers, which also gave him a pay raise, to stay in Lincoln amid the Penn State rumors. Rhule to Penn State was the coming home story the Nittany Lions wanted, but Rhule knows that he is already home.

It always felt like Rhule was dancing around the coaching rumors, not completely shutting them down, but also not humoring them. However, when he spoke to the media after signing his new extension, Rhule made it clear that from the beginning, he had no plans of leaving.

"I've left too many teams, I've left too many players," Rhule said. "The players always understood, and they were always grateful to me. I could not leave these guys; I love this team, and I love this group, and I love where we are headed."

Rhule even talked about how when the rumors started about him being the top candidate for Penn State, the phone started ringing with recruits calling. Recruits who had chosen to come play for Rhule called him, asking if he was leaving, and he had a simple answer for them.

"Every recruit that called me when my name started coming, I said, 'I'm not going anywhere,'" Rhule said.

It seemed like Rhule even got emotional when he started talking about how his wife, Julie Rhule, has moved around with him everywhere as he has coached in Texas at Baylor, in Pennsylvania at Temple, in North Carolina with the Carolina Panthers, and now to Lincoln, Nebraska. Rhule said his family loves being in Lincoln and reassured fans with one simple saying to end it all.

"I love it here," Rhule said.

Rhule is truly not going anywhere, and Nebraska fans are rejoicing that they can finish out the season without anymore coaching stresses. Nebraska loves Matt Rhule, too, well, maybe not when the team is losing to Minnesota 24-6, but most of the time, he is the guy this team wants steering the ship.
