The future of Nebraska football got even brighter over the weekend with the commitment of blue-chip running back Amir Brown.

Brown,  a class of 2027 prospect from Raleigh, North Carolina, is the second prospect to commit to the Cornhuskers this month, and he got a special message from Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule and running backs coach E.J. Barthel.

"I've been waiting for this day, really proud to be able to call myself your coach. You're a special young man on the field, but more importantly to me, off the field," Rhule said. "I think we have one of the greatest classes in the history of Nebraska football, and you just made it go. Welcome to the family. Go Big Red!"

Nebraska wants to claim the RBU title again

The Cornhuskers program has a rich history of running backs that goes back to Johnny Rodgers, Roger Craig, Mike Rozier and generations prior up to Ahman Green, Lawrence Phillips, Marlon Lucky and on and on and on.

Rhule wants Nebraska to return to that identity and become the place where top running backs. The emergence of Emmett Johnson shows that running backs will be able to thrive under Rhule's watch. Johnson has over 1,200 rushing yards this season and is a favorite to earn All-Big Ten honors.

Cornhuskers setting the pace in 2027

Nerbaska already has seven commits for the class of 2027 and 247Sports has the class ranked fourth in the country. The Cornhuskers don't have a large class of 2026 -- just nine commits as of this weekend, so as the staff attempts to close that class out strong, they are focused on a major haul for the following year.

The build of the class started in May when four-star quarterback Trae Taylor made his pledge. Taylor is one of the top-10 quarterbacks in the class. Nebraska has also picked up commitments from two top in-state prospects, four-star cornerback Tony Pittman III and three-star offensive tackle Matt Erickson.
