The Nebraska football team’s vibes regarding recruiting have been very, very good. And they’re looking perfect in 2027 with the recent commitment of Trae Taylor. However, the 2026 commitment list right now is relatively minuscule.

That’s one of the reasons why the Monday commitment of Jase Reynolds to Nebraska is massive. He becomes just the fourth commitment for the 2026 class, and is the first commitment they’ve gotten for the class since the calendar turned to 2025. That’s quite impressive when you consider we’re now almost six months into the year. But there are some other reasons why Reynolds’ commitment is massive.

3 reasons why Jase Reynold's addition to Nebraska is massive

He’s an in-state commitment

Matt Rhule and the Nebraska football staff have taken quite a bit of heat over the last few months for their approach in-state recruiting. Iowa State even pretends it’s beaten the Huskers in several head-to-head battles. That, although none of the Cyclones’ commits got a Husker offer.

Reynolds is an Elkhorn North product that apparently caught the Cornhuskers coaches eyes despite not being all that highly ranked by recruiting services. This pickup is massive no just because he’s in-state but because depending on how he turns out compared to other in-state prospects, Rhule’s going to be under the spotlight.

He can slot into numerous positions

While Reynolds plays linebacker for Elkhorn, he likely won’t be a straight up LBer at Nebraska. Instead, it’s likely he’ll slot into one of the hybrid positions like ROVER or Nickel. He could eventually be someone who also makes the safety position his.

Reynolds has good vision on the field even if he doesn’t have blazing speed. John Butler’s defense could certainly suit him at a couple of different spots. And he does have the speed to hang in the secondary if it’s not at corner.

Huskers stole him from some old rivals

Sometimes, recruiting wins are just fun because of who Nebraska beat out for a commitment. Reynolds didn’t have a ton of offers, but he did have both Kansas State and Northwestern courting him, as well as Navy and Air Force.

That means that not only did the Nebraska football team beat out Power 4 competition for Jase Reynolds, but they beat out some schools that have their own kind of respectability and honor.
