Now that Darion Jones is starting to get his first interest from college teams, could Nebraska football follow suit.

When it comes to Nebraska football recruiting, there’s all kinds of different ways in which prospects can be “legacy targets.” There’s obviously the son of a former player. But more and more often, we’re seeing the Huskers going after siblings of players that are already on the team.

The question now is whether or not freshman defensive back Donovan Jones’ younger brother Darion might eventually get a Huskers offer. So far, he’s only got one Division 1 offer. It’s the first one he’s gotten and he just received it this week. One has to wonder whether that might open the floodgates.

Darion Jones reported that he got an official offer from South Dakota State. So at least when it comes to getting an FCS offer as his first official. He’s definitely someone who would love to get the call from Nebraska football. One would think the 2026 prospect might eventually at least get a grey shirt offer from Matt Rhule and company.

It’s possible that the Huskers could see something they like in Jones as he starts growing his profile. The wide receiver out of Omaha North had a pretty quiet 2023, but this season is quite different.

Through 9 games so far, Jones has 30 catches for 589 yards and 9 touchdowns, according to MaxPreps. Those 9 scores are certainly something that should be looked at when Matt Rhule and company look at whether or not he might eventually earn a scholarship for Nebraska football.
