After the Nebraska football team lost 40-16 to the Iowa Hawkeyes, Husker head coach Matt Rhule tried to take all the bullets, saying that any anger aimed at the team should squarely land on him. While there are plenty of fans upset and worried about the state of the program, he was far from the only coach drawing NU fans' ire.
It should surprise no one that defensive coordinator John Butler has people calling for his head since the Huskers closed out the season being outscored 77-26. The Cornhuskers followed a 37-10 loss to Penn State with the loss on Friday.
Not all of the anger was after the game. There was plenty of anger among Nebraska football fans during the game as Iowa moved up and down the field. What's clear is that people are plenty ready to see yet another change at DC.
Nebraska football fans air their grievances over John Butler's job as DC
One of the most frustrating parts of the job that John Butler did this year is that he hasn't really admitted that his approach could use a change.
I don’t want to hear another word from Rhule ($12 MIL). I want to see change. John Butler ($1 MIL), Donnie Raiola ($650k), Terry Bradden ($400k). They were awful all year. Their scheme was pathetic, their technique was bad, their development was ass. Results? They can all go. https://t.co/LugyMrypGh

Some fans have been wary of Butler since he was first hired as Nebraska's DC. His performance has made those fans think they were right not to trust it in this first place.
You can't keep John Butler as DC. It was a safe, weak hire from the jump, and he has been outclassed time and time again throughout the year. On the flip side, the offense has also been extremely underwhelming. The Minnesota game alone is almost enough to fire DH.

Some Nebraska fans had a short and succint take on John Butler and his job as the defensive coordinator.
John Butler’s defense is just not effective.

Plenty of Nebraska fans simply don't think he should even have a job on Sunday morning. Though he almost certainly will.
John Butler firing should be executed in the tunnel after the game and be announced during the postgame press conference. 🤷🏼♂️

More on the defensive staff would be a bonus.
They lost my sympathy with multiple 3 down lineman sets on defense inside the 5 this season.
