Nebraska has officially taken its first big hit in the transfer portal, and it comes as a big surprise to fans. Forward Berke Buyuktuncel has announced he is entering the transfer portal after two seasons in Lincoln.
The 6-foot-10 forward was a key player for Nebraska over the last two seasons, starting 61 of the 66 games he appeared in. Starting his career at UCLA, Buyuktuncel then transferred to Nebraska for the last two seasons and will now look for his new home for what will probably be his final college season.

This move comes as a huge surprise, especially with a recent post on social media by Buyuktuncel. Apparently, just yesterday, Buyuktuncel posted that he got a tattoo commemorating Nebraska's historic season. The tattoo said "28-7," which was the final record for the Huskers this season, and now he is planning to leave Nebraska.

Granted, the tattoo didn't say anything about Nebraska, just the record for the Huskers, but it is an interesting thing to do when you plan on leaving the school anyway.
Buyuktuncel will certainly be missed as a key starter for Nebraska. The Turkey native only averaged 6.5 points per game for Nebraska this season, as well as 5.6 rebounds. His biggest game came against Vanderbilt in the Round of 32 when he scored 12 points in 27 minutes for the Huskers.
There was a consensus that Buyuktuncel was going to stick around for his final season with head coach Fred Hoiberg, but apparently, he feels he wants a fresh start somewhere else. Hoiberg will now have to work to get another big man in the transfer portal, as Rienk Mast is also out of eligibility.
Hoiberg needs to find someone who can score well in the paint and open up the shooting on the outside, especially if the rumors of Pryce Sandfort staying for another season are true.
