The Big Ten has seen some very memorable and emotional moments between fathers and sons who happen to also be coaches and players on the same team. From Wisconsin's Greg Gard and Isaac Gard to Indiana's Darian DeVries and Tucker DeVries, but Nebraska fans are focusing on Nebraska's Fred Hoiberg and Sam Hoiberg.
Both Hoibergs have been at Nebraska for five years now, and for Fred, he will say they have been the best five years of his life, not just because of the growth of the Huskers basketball program, but because of the time he was able to spend with his son.
"He has done so much for this program, where it was when Sam got here, had no idea what path he would be on, but he has just gone out and done everything for our team," Fred Hoiberg said. "These five years have just flown by, but five of the most enjoyable of my career."

Fred Hoiberg was visibly emotional during son Sam Hoiberg's Senior Day presentation
Every father's dream is to get to watch their children fulfill their dreams, and for Fred Hoiberg, he has gotten a front row seat to watch his son, Sam Hoiberg, do just that at Nebraska as his head coach. With the Nebraska basketball program in a rough place when the Hoiberg duo got to Lincoln, to see all the hard work pay off is something to get emotional about.
Now, five years later, Fred Hoiberg got to see his son Sam play his final game on his home court in Lincoln, and during his Senior Day presentation, a proud father couldn't hold in his emotions.

With the whole Hoiberg family in tow, including a surprise appearance by Sam's brother Jack Hoiberg, who currently works for the San Antonio Spurs, Fred was able to finally join his son and family. The two embraced in a long hug that had everyone in Pinnacle Bank Arena shedding a tear.
The good news is that this duo still has some time together, as Nebraska earned the triple-bye in the Big Ten Tournament. After that, it's a sure thing that the Cornhuskers will have their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2024.
