It's been an interesting year for former Nebraska football defensive coordinator Tony White. The former Husker coach began the season with a triumphant win at his new school over Alabama. But since then, things haven't gone so well. That's just one reason why he might look to jump to UCLA.
The Bruins' job has been open longer than most other jobs, and yet, there hasn't been a whole lot of movement. White has long been one of the top candidates for the job, and the latest info from Vegas oddsmakers shows that it's definitely still the case.
The former Nebraska DC who moved to Florida State over the winter might be one and done with the Seminoles. While he's not right at the top of the list, he's currently sitting in second place for the Bruins' job, right behind Cleveland Browns OC Tommy Rees:
- Tommy Rees 2/1
- Tony White 9/2 (+450)
- Bob Chesney 3/2 (+150)
- Kalani Sitake 7/1
- Jerry Neuheisel 8/1
- Jonathan Smith 8/1
Former Nebraska DC Tony White among the leaders for UCLA opening
Like White, Rees has been a hot property in the college ranks thanks to turns as OC at Notre Dame and Alabama. However, also like the former Nebraska defensive coordinator, he's so far struck out on every opening he's shot for.
White, who played football at UCLA, would generally be a frontrunner for that reason alone. However, since the Bruins already went the alumni route with Deshaun Foster, they might shy away.
At the beginning of the year, Florida State fans might be bummed that Tony White was a top candidate. However, Seminoles backers have grown frustrated with the coach, with some believing he changed how he called the defense once the UCLA job opened.
Keep an eye on the former Nebraska football coach this winter as there are bound to be other openings popping up as more jobs get filled.
