Former Nebraska baseball great Alex Gordon had a phenomenal major league career, all with the Kansas City Royals, that included two World Series appearances and one World Series win in 2015. Gordon spent 14 years in the MLB after being drafted in the first round by the Royals in 2005 and making his debut with he team in 2007. Gordon was one of the very few MLB players to spend his entire career with one team.

Gordon called it a career after the 2020 season, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he did so without any fans in the stadiums. During the 2021 season, when fans were allowed back in stadiums, Gordon had a whole retirement ceremony where, instead of a ceremonial first pitch, the star left fielder threw the ball from his position in the outfield all the way to home plate to his former teammate, catcher Salvador Perez.

Gordon threw a perfect dart, and it was the perfect one to officially end his career in Kansas City. Now, five years later, Gordon is getting yet another accolade in Kansas City to go with his eight Gold Gloves in left field and being inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.

Tonight, before the Royals take on the Athletics, Gordon will be inducted into the Kansas City Royals Hall of Fame. Gordon will be the 31st player inducted into the Hall of Fame, joining other Royals greats like Georgia Brett, Bo Jackson, Mike Sweeney, Dick Howser, and even his former manager Ned Yost.

Alex Gordon will go down as one of the best baseball players with the Nebraska Cornhuskers

Gordon's career with the Royals was followed by a fantastic career at Nebraska, almost making Gordon a bit of a hometown kid for the Royals. Gordon's final year at Nebraska was truly his best as he won numerous awards, including the 2005 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Winner, 2005 Xanthus Dick Howser Trophy, 2005 ABCA National Player of the Year, 2005 Base American National Player of the Year, among others.

With Nebraska being in the Big 12 at the time, Gordon also one Big 12 Player of the year twice, as voted on by the coaches around the conference. Gordon was also a part of the U.S. National Team while at Nebraska.

Congratulations, Alex Gordon, on the accomplishment!
