The Nebraska football team is getting ready for the UCLA Bruins on Saturday. As it turns out, this is the first time in three games that the Huskers haven’t gone up against a Top 25 opponent. It’s the first time since Week 4 since NU didn’t face off against a team with a winning record.

While some might think the Huskers are overlooking the 2-5 Bruins, it’s clear that Matt Rhule and the staff have preached not to consider this a win before it’s in the win column.

That was demonstrated on Thursday when Nebraska footbal quarterback Dylan Raiola addressed the media on Thursday. The last time anyone will talk to the media before the game on Saturday afternoon.

Nebraska football quarterback knows the importance of a bowl game

“In practice, I heard someone say we haven’t been to a bowl game in eight years,” Raiola said on Thursday. “I think getting the fans guaranteed one more game, possibly more, being in the playoffs would mean a lot to this fanbase. They’ve been through a lot and been very loyal to everybody. It would mean a lot to get to a bowl game. I think just the focus of trying to win this week and this week only, and get six wins.”

Raiola also talked about the changes and adjustments he’s had to make over the course of his freshman season.

“I think seeing the field. Defensive coverage has changed post and pre-snap, and just the communication between our players and coaches. There’s been a lot of adjustments. There’s been a lot of things moving since game one and I’m really excited about where we are at now.”

Finally, he talked about his admiration for tight end Thomas Fidone

“I think Thomas (Fidone) has always been for us. There’s always been an emphasis on getting him the ball. See when he gets the ball in his hands, he goes and makes plays. I’m proud of Thomas, he’s been through a lot in his college career with his ACL and a lot of ups and downs for him. He’s just stayed the course and he is grinding. Trying to see the future is later and it’s paid off.”

That sounds like someone who might have a bigger part to play in the Nebraska football offense this weekend.
