While almost everything was wine and roses for the Nebraska football team on Saturday after they became bowl eligible with a win over over the Wisconsin Badgers, new Huskers offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen found himself dealing with his first controversy. That controversy involved a valuavle player in Thomas Fidone amid a season even the tight end would likely admit has not gone as well as he planned.

On Tuesday, Holgorsen address the media and covered a number of topics. Chief among them was Fidone getting only two snaps against Wisconsin and a rather angry post the mother of the Husker player sent after the game.

“I want to know what is the deal with not playing Thomas Fidone your first string TE and he doesn’t even see the field that much,” wrote Shirley Fidone as a comment on a social media post. “Congratulations you finally broke him hope you’re happy.”

That comment had some people wondering if things were about to explode around the Nebraska football team. However, Holgorsen handled the situation as well as he could. And that’s saying something considering the new OC is not known for being all that deft dealing with PR.

"It's all about competition and competition makes people better,” Holgorsen responded when he was asked the lack of playing time for Fidone. He also said that Fidone not getting more than 3 snaps has motivated him.

He added that the Nebraska football tight end has had the best week of practice since Holgorsen arrived in Lincoln. It appears what could have become a big issue has been handled about as well as it possibly could by Holgorsen. And Fidone might not be a big impact player on Friday against Iowa.
