Nyziah Hunter is becoming a star for Nebraska
When Nebraska went out and got Nyziah Hunter and Dane Key from the transfer portal this winter, there was quite a bit of excitement about how much the Huskers looked like they'd souped up their offense. However, most people thought Key would be the go-to receiver since he had more experience as the man at Kentucky.
Unfortunately, Key has disappeared at times this season, perhaps because the opposing defense has ... keyed on him. Whatever the reason, Hunter has not been shut down the same way. In fact, he's only getting better as the season goes on.
Against Northwestern, Hunter had 6 catches for 70 yards and a touchdown. That touchdown just happened to be a fantastic, toe-dragging reception on a very nice throw from his quarterback. He also had 31 yards after catch. Even against Minnesota, the Cal transfer still had 5 catches for 40 yards. The week before that, he had his best game as a Husker with 5 catches for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Last year, the wide receiver finished with 40 catches for 578 yards and 5 touchdowns. He's almost certainly going to beat all those numbers. He's already tied his career high in TDs as he's got five this year with four regular-season games to go.
He's also already sitting at 33 catches and 525 yards. In other words, he could hit both career highs next Saturday.
The best news of all is that Nyziah Hunter isn't a one-year acquisition for Nebraska. Only a sophomore this year, the best may be yet to come. Especially as he gets more comfortable and more familiar with Dylan Raiola.
