The recruiting game is cutthroat, and just because a prospect is committed somewhere, nothing is set in stone until they sign and step foot on campus. That is truly the case for FSU safety commit Tedarius Hughes, who made a surprise mid-week visit to Nebraska today.

Hughes had his official visit with Florida State this past weekend after also taking official visits to Miami and Syracuse in late May and early June. The young safety has been a candidate for a slip from Florida State as he has been committed to the Seminoles since July of 2024. Hughes does not have an official visit set for Nebraska, but this mid-week visit could change that.

Nebraska's new defensive backs coach, Addison Williams, who was hired from UCF in December of 2024, has a good relationship with Hughes and could be a big reason for the spontaneous visit to Lincoln.

Nebraska has a chance to flip 4-star safety Tedarius Hughes from Florida State

Head coach Matt Rhule has the chance to make a good impression on Hughes during his midweek visit. The 4-star safety is ranked as the No. 315 player nationally, the No. 26 safety in the Class of 2026, and the No. 50 player in the state of Florida.

The Miami native may want to stay close to home, but if he wants to experience more cold weather, Nebraska would be the perfect place for Hughes. Being committed to Florida State for over a year could mean that Hughes is ready to see what else is out there, and Nebraska has a good chance to get Hughes back this weekend for an official visit, with a solid unofficial visit this week.

Nebraska could have a few more flip targets coming their way later this week, but it all depends on whether Rhule can market the program enough to lure prospects away from their committed school.
