For most of Saturday afternoon, it felt as though the Nebraska basketball team was finally going through its first terrible game. After opening up with a 14-7 lead, they were outscored by Indiana 32-16 to end the first half.

That run continued into the second half, and the Hoosiers eventually grew the lead to 16 points. And then the team of destiny took over. After tying the game 55-55, they really never looked back. Eventually, they managed to improve to 16-0 on the season and 5-0 in the Big Ten with an 83-77 come-from-behind victory.

So what were the big takeaways from a Nebraska basketball team that just refuses to lose?

Nebraska basketball has purged its road problems

Over the course of the Fred Hoiberg era entering 2026, the Huskers have had problems winning on the road, no matter who they played. This year, however, they are 3-0 on the road at three of the toughest places to play in the conference.

In the past, the Huskers have had problems generating momentum on the road. This year, they rely on being doubted.

Someone always steps up for Nebraska

Rienk Mast had a bit of an off day. So did Braden Frager in the first half. Pryce Sandfort also didn't do a whole lot. In the past that would have been the end of the story.

However, on Saturday, Jamarques Lawrence scored a career high 27 points to go with 3 assists and 5 rebounds. Lawrence hasn't been much of a scorer this year, he's been more of a pot stirrer. However, he went 5-for-8 from 3-point land and kept Nebraska in the game until Frager and Mask and Sandfort could get going in the second half.

Nebraska's defense locked down in the second half

One of the biggest calling cards for the Huskers this season has been a defense that allows opponents to shoot just 38% so far this year. In the first half, Indiana managed to build a 39-30 lead thanks to shooting 57.7% from the field and hitting 6 of 14 three pointers.

In the second half, a Nebraska team that has been outstanding on defense was outstanding again, holding the Hoosiers to 36.7% shooting. It's the defense that could take the Huskers a long way this season.
