The Nebraska football team has been called a front-runner to land the services of former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord.

The Nebraska football team has been going hard after transfer quarterbacks so far this offseason. In fact it appears they’ve been going hard after most of the top portal QBs in the system. However, it looks like the pursuit of one potential Husker QB1 is standing out more than others.

According to CBS Sports’ Zach Gelb, Nebraska is now the front-runner to land former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord. If that does come to pass, it would be quite the coup for a Cornhuskers program that was even an average quarterback away from a bowl game and maybe even a Big Ten West title.

Offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield was in Columbus earlier this week to visit McCord and by all accounts the meeting went well. That alone was an interesting twist in a transfer portal story that I expected to have more of a negative impact on the Husker program.

There was a time when it looked like Ohio State looking for a QB would simply be a roadblock for the Huskers getting someone like Will Howard. Now it appears there is at least a decent chance Nebraska is going to snap up the signal-caller who was just a few points away from winning the Big Ten East.

Nebraska football looking like contenders for Kyle McCord

While Satterfield’s meeting with McCord was seen as productive for both sides, it’s not entirely clear how close the Cornhuskers are to landing the former Buckeye. As of now, it doesn’t appear he’s lined up a visit to Lincoln.

It’s of course possible that could come in the next couple of days. There doesn’t appear to be much of a rush in that area. Very few of the top transfer quarterbacks have committed to their new schools yet.

In that respect, it appears it might be a game of dominos. The first of a certain group to commit might set off a chain reaction. Nebraska football landing Kyle McCord would certainly be a fun game of dominos indeed.
