Nebraska football fans have been hoping that Kansas State quarterback Will Howard would be heading to Lincoln, but that seems extremely unlikely.
Nebraska Football appears to be out of the running for transfer quarterback Will Howard out of Kansas State. While Howard is still exploring whether to join the NFL or to come back for another collegiate year, many fans were hoping that he would be a solution in the quarterback room.
Nebraska Football outside looking in
Many Husker fans were excited to sign Howard from the portal potentially. However, it appears that he prefers a strong contending team in Washington, or a multitude of SEC teams at this point. It makes sense for him to seek the best fit that has an established offensive line presence. While things can change, Nebraska does not appear to be on the short list at the moment.
Nebraska Football avoiding recent history
While many would like an immediate solution in fix the quarterback issue, Matt Rhule and staff could spend better use of their time and energy if they are currently looking elsewhere to fill a roster spot.
Will Howard threw a high 10 interceptions as a starter this season. and only completed 61.3% of his passes for 2,643 yards with 24 touchdowns.
Seeing that Nebraska football quarterbacks turning the ball over was the single biggest issue, another one-year turnover-prone quarterback is not likely to be a good solution. While he may be one of the better available talents currently in the transfer portal, it would not be an ideal pairing for either side at this point.
Nebraska Football still searching for quarterback solution
Even for those who believe Chubba Purdy is the answer, a veteran presence would be a welcomed and needed addition. Considering three quarterbacks saw meaningful snaps due to injury, quality at this position remains a void to fill. While it does not look to be Will Howard, who will Matt Rhule look to? Or does he believe the talent that is already in Lincoln will lead the Nebraska football team into the 2024 season.
