Nebraska football corner Omar Brown understands why the Iowa rivalry is so heated since this year is the first time he’s seen a loss to the Hawkeyes.
You can’t fault Omar Brown for not fully understanding the Nebraska football rivalry with Iowa. After all, in his first season in Lincoln, the Huskers beat the Hawkeyes. The Huskers victory meant that Iowa didn’t win the Big Ten West.
It was also a heck of a way to finish the season.
Jump back to present times and it was the Hawkeyes turn to derail the hopes and dreams of the Cornhuskers. In this case, getting to a bowl. And they derailed them in heartbreaking fashion.
According to Brown, the Big Ten West champ did it without a modicum of class or dignity. So now the defensive back understands why so many people hate the conference rival just over the border.
“I can say now, I don’t like Iowa, I hate Iowa,” Brown said after Friday’s gutwrencher. “I’ll always say that for life. I hope Nebraska whoops Iowa every year. They were talking so much trash out there.”
Nebraska football DB doesn’t like Iowa anymore
It’s worth pointing out that Iowa earned the right to trash talk. They just finished a 10-2 season regular season. They earned the right to go get throttled by either Ohio State or Michigan.
Meanwhile, the Cornhuskers are sitting at home again for the bowl season. But you also have to grant Brown the right to hate the team he just lost to.
He’s bled, he’s sweat, and after this season, he probably shed a few tears. And he’s got a deep love for Nebraska and what it represents. He made that clear on Friday as well.
