The Nebraska football team is once again the first FBS team to get their foot in the door with a monster offensive lineman.

Since Matt Rhule arrived in Lincoln, he’s made it clear that he has a very distinct way that he evaluates players that should get an official Nebraska football offer. Sometimes, that evaluation process lands on a player who doesn’t have a lot of Power 5 or FBS attention.

Sometimes it lands on a player that didn’t have any before the Huskers came calling. One of the most interesting things about those types of offers is that the Cornhuskers tend to be the first, but rarely the only offer once a recruiting cycle really gets rolling.

That’s why when the Nebraska football team issued an offer to Ryan Babatz, it’s likely that it will be the first of many for the Minnesota-based offensive lineman.

At the moment, the only other major college offers that Babatz can claim are from North Dakota and South Dakota State. However, it appears that his size and talent is enough to convince Matt Rhule and company that he deserves a spot in the 2025 class.

Already standing at 6-foot-5 and 265 feet, it’s clear that the Nebraska football coaches see something in Babatz’s build that makes them think they can help him develop into a Power 5 prospect.

The offer to Babatz also signifies that the Huskers coaching staff is moving full steam ahead with the next recruiting cycle.

Next month is the early signing period for the 2024 class and Rhule and company have pretty much locked down who they think they’ll be adding to that class. There will be tweaks here and there, but there’s clearly a renewed focus on the next group.

For Ryan Babatz, it’s the official beginning of what is sure to be a rather wild ride. For Nebraska football, when other teams come calling for the Buffalo, Minnesota tackle, they’ll be able to remind him they were the first to get their foot in the door.
