Nebraska football is the latest team to face a rather tiny opening total when going up against the Iowa Hawkeyes. You should still bet the under.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Vegas is not expecting a shootout when the Nebraska football team butts heads with the Iowa Hawkeyes on Black Friday. In fact, it would have been a bit of a surprise if the total had been set at anything over 30 points.

The oddsmakers didn’t disappoint, as they expect yet another low scoring game involving the Huskers and the Hawkeyes. What might be a little more interesting is that the Big Ten West champs are very slight favorites for the contest in Lincoln.

FanDuel has the earliest odds for the game on a short week for both teams. The total has been set at 27.5, and the Hawkeyes are currently 1.5-point favorites.

When the two teams do engage in battle in the last regular season game for both, they’ll be coming at it from opposite angles. Iowa is coming off an emotional win that garnered them a berth in the Big Ten Conference championship game against either Michigan or Ohio State.

Nebraska football is reeling for the third straight week after blowing a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and losing 24-17 in overtime.

Nebraska football offense continues to struggle

Quite a lot is made of just how bad Iowa’s offense is. About how bad it’s been for years now. It even got an offensive coordinator fired. But it’s worth pointing out the total wouldn’t be that low if the Cornhuskers weren’t struggling to put up points as well.

The Nebraska football team has scored at least 20 points just twice in its last seven games. It’s scored more than 30 exactly once. In what is now an inexplicable offensive 31-point explosion against Purdue.

If there is a bright side here, it’s that Nebraska football has more to play for next week. Perhaps they can find a way to use that to actually close the deal. There’s also the fact that they’ve already shown an ability to upend the end of Iowa’s season. They’ll be looking to beat the Hawkeyes for a second straight year.
