Former Nebraska Football head coach Scott Frost has an epic ton of detractors out there but he has one ally that people likely didn’t see coming.

While the person who stepped up and made glowing remarks about Frost might surprise some, that’s only because they haven’t yet realized that’s just his style.

Matt Rhule appears to be someone who would never say something negative about someone without a solid reason. Certainly, he’s not sending Christmas cards to Big Ten refs this year, but even they haven’t drawn his full ire.

Rhule has also spoken glowingly about past Nebraska Football greats. Those he’s met and only had conversations about.

And that’s how Matt Rhule seems to be the unlikeliest of allies of one of his predecessors. It’s especially odd considering how Scott Frost, himself talked about the man that came directly before him.

Rhule was talking to Andy Staples of On3 on Staples’ new podcast when he was asked about how he’s building the Nebraska Football program these days. He wasn’t asked about Frost. He wasn’t asked about those that came before him.

And yet, he offered up some very nice comments about the former Husker head coach.

"“It has been amazing. I think it’s a credit to Scott Frost and his staff. To me, if you’re a smart coach? You follow good staffs. I remember watching Urban Meyer, one of the coaches I look up to, and he followed Gary Blackney. He followed coaches that had taught guys the right things. So I try to emulate that. I have a lot of respect for Scott.”"

Scott Frost was … good? With Nebraska Football?

Rhule’s comments stand out the most because it’s unlikely he’d find many Nebraska Football fans who’d agree with him. Frost’s failures in Lincoln are also the reason that the new head coach is likely going to get a longer leash than many of his predecessors.

Maybe that’s the real reason Rhule is so complimentary. He knows that he really does owe Scott Frost a debt of gratitude. Just not in the way most people in and around Nebraska Football might expect.
