The Nebraska football has made a brand new offer to a linebacker that has some of the best Pac 12 teams coming after him hard.

While the Nebraska football team is putting the finishing touches on its 2024 recruiting class, Matt Rhule and company are working plenty hard on build up the 2025 class. On Thursday, that building up of the class included an official offer to a New Mexico linebacker by the name of Mason Posa.

Posa is considered a 3-star linebacker from Albuquerque, NM by On3 and while the youngster isn’t among the best in his class, he’s clearly someone that quite a few schools see as a talented player.

Nebraska football is the latest to give the linebacker an offer, but he’s gotten plenty from some of the best teams in the Pac 12 and his home region.

Arizona State, Washington, Utah and Oregon are all hoping Posa will stick close to home. Of course, New Mexico and New Mexico State are both hoping that he’ll stick even closer and go to one of his home state’s school.

According to Rivals, Posa is going to surprise all those teams who think he’s going to stick around the West Coast. The recruiting site believes he’s leaning towards the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Nebraska football wants to make headway

One of the most interesting things about the Nebraska football team going after this particular linebacker is that New Mexico is not a state the Huskers have spent much recruiting time in over the last few years.

There are zero players from New Mexico currently on the roster. That means there are more players from Canada than Posa’s home state playing for Matt Rhule and company this year. However, it’s clear that the new coaching staff wants to set up a bit of a connection to the state.

Watching Nebraska football as it pursues Mason Posa will be interesting as we try and see whether they can pull a kid out of a state the Huskers have mostly ignored of late.
