The Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team didn’t suffer from any sort of looking past the opponent in a sweep of Northwestern on Wednesday night.

If there was ever a time when the Nebraska Cornhuskers might have been caught looking past their current opponent, it would have been Wednesday night. John Cook’s squad took on the Northwestern Wildcats knowing full well that the Clash of the Titans against the AVCA top-ranked Wisconsin Badgers looms on Saturday night.

Instead of looking past the Wildcats and struggling to put away an inferior opponent, Bekka Alick, Lexi Rodriguez and the rest swept Northwestern in three sets. The 25-15, 25-16, 25-21 victory looked more like a Nebraska Cornhuskers team that is focused and ready to beat down all comers, rather than one with its biggest match of the season on the horizon.

The second-ranked volleyball team did struggle a bit in the third set, though even when the Huskers seemed to let up a bit, they turned on the afterburners and improved to 18-0 on the season.

Nebraska Cornhuskers roll into Clash of the Titans against Wisconsin

As has been the case for most of the 2023-24 season, the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team won thanks to contributions from several different stars.

The Florida transfer who has quickly turned into a team leader, Merritt Beason posted  13 kills while freshman Harper Murray had 10 of his own.

All in all, the Nebraska Cornhuskers showed they might be shifting into a new gear as they had a season-best .395 hitting percentage, topping its previous best of .393 in a match.

With the Wildcats now successfully dispatched, all the attention gets to turn to the Wisconsin Badgers. This is one of the matches that has been circled by Nebraska Cornhuskers fans since the season started.

The Huskers have already taken care of business in numerous big matches this fall, but the two titans will get to determine the unquestioned top team in the AVCA as the season begins to wind down.
