Former Nebraska Cornhuskers star DiCaprio Bootle has gotten a big break as he tries to keep his NFL dreams going. We’ll see how it works out.

Former Nebraska Cornhuskers football star DiCaprio Bootle got a break on Wednesday that could extend his NFL career. The former Huskers defensive back was named to the Carolina Panthers 53-man roster, activating him from the Panthers’ practice squad.

Bootle has been elevated from the practice squad each of the last three weeks, using up all his eligible weeks to be promoted. The Panthers had been carrying just 52 active players since there are several guys on the verge of coming back from injuries.

That little fact means that Bootle has a chance to show that he belongs to stay on the Panthers’ roster. If not he’ll be looking for a new team.

Bootle started his NFL career in the 2021 season as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs. In the last two years, he’s played seven games and amassed 11 tackles.

This year, the former Nebraska Cornhuskers star has contributed exclusively on special teams. It will be interesting to see if the 0-5 Panthers give him a chance to do a bit more.
