With Heinrich Haarberg apparently his fourth straight start, it sure appears as though he’s actually the Nebraska football starting quarterback.

Since Heinrich Haarberg replaced an injured Jeff Sims in the Colorado game, there have been fans who have wanted to see what he can do with the starting job. He’s since had the starting job for the last three games.

The team is 2-1, with the one loss being last week against a Michigan team that just overpowered the Nebraska football team in every fashion.

Now, on Friday evening, it appears that Haarberg is once again getting the start against Illinois. That’s despite the fact that head coach Matt Rhule and offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield have made it clear that Sims is basically healthy, even if they often couch it is “might not be 100 percent”

The question at this point, has to be, is the job just Haarberg’s? Is the game of “who will start” each week really about not telling opposing teams? They are trying to make Nebraska football opponents prepare for both teams even if the Husker coaches know who is going to be under center.

The latest sign of this is the way the Nebraska football team warmed up ahead of the tilt against the Illini.

Nebraska football might have settled on starter

There are other reasons to believe that Haarberg might be the starter, even if it’s not been made public yet. Rhule has spent a lot of time recently talking about the way they believe the Kearney product can develop and where they are just dealing with some potential shortcomings.

The coaches have talked about the fact that they briefly tried to tweak his sidearm delivery. They’ve since decided it’s not possible. At least not if they want him to be the guy he is.

It’s possible the game against Illinois will be the biggest indicator as to whether Nebraska football has a new starting quarterback, even if they don’t make it public. Sims isn’t listed anywhere on the injury report. If he doesn’t get at least some action, that should be taken as a very big sign.
