The Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team were finally really tested on Friday night as they had to go to five sets before they beat Purdue. It was the first time all season the Huskers have been in danger of losing.

The second-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers got everything they could handle from the 17th-ranked Purdue Boilermakers. That included the first time John Cook’s team has lost the first set of a match all season.

Purdue won that first set 25-23 and looked like they might even take the second until the Huskers rallied to win it 25-22. They then looked like they were starting to roll as they won the third set 25-18 but Purdue came back to win the fourth, 25-19.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers finally managed to use their dominant performers like Harper Murray and Bergen Reilly in order to win the fifth, decisive set, 15-12.

Next up for the Huskers is a quick turnaround against Indiana on Saturday night. The Hoosiers swept Iowa on Friday night.

The Huskers scored 18 runs on 20 hits and one error, while the Mavs totaled 10 runs on 11 hits and an error.

Will Bolt’s team will next play another exhibition game against Could County CC next Saturday and then the Red-White series on October 11, 12 and 13 before adjourning until 2024.

Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball commit gets a spotlight

As good as John Cook’s squad is this year, it’s important to remember the future looks bright as well. That includes recruits like Ryan Hunter.

The North Carolina prospect recently got featured on her local television station as being one of the best high school volleyball players in the country.

It’s going to be fun to see what she can do for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
