Nebraska football tight end Arik Gilbert finds himself in legal trouble again as he was reportedly arrested for the second time since August.

That means that the Arik Gilbert drama continued going from bad to worst on Friday night, and it almost certainly means the end of any chance the talented tight end will play a down for Nebraska football.

UGASports writer Rabi Nabulsi reported that Gilbert was arrested in Lumpkin County, Georgia. This time he was reportedly nabbed for stealing 150 vapes from a local gas station.

That is weirdly in keeping with the reason for his first arrest in Lincoln at the end of August.

When he was arrested just outside SJ’s Liquor and Vape Shop in Lincoln, he was found with just over $1,600 in vape products, Delta 8, cigars, and lighters. That he is once again in trouble with the law again for the same basic thing is certainly confounding to Nebraska football fans who spent most of the spring and summer hoping to see him catch passes for the Huskers this year.

That he was back in Georgia this weekend when the Nebraska football team is getting ready for its game against Northern Illinois would indicate that his situation might be settled.

Nebraska football tight end arrested again

Head coach Matt Rhule hasn’t made any kind of announcement about Gilbert since his arrest. However, it would certainly seem as though he’s not part of the team at the moment.

If that is the case, then it stands to reason that a second arrest (unless of course this is some kind of strange misunderstanding) is going to close the door on the tight end’s chance of every playing in Memorial Stadium.

Of course, we’re also still waiting for word from the NCAA, though at this point, there’s a question if that word is ever coming. For Nebraska football, it appears to be the end of a story that had some weird twists and turns for Nebraska football.
