Harper Murray was the hero for the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team on Saturday as John Cook’s crew got its 6th sweep in 7 matches.

While the Nebraska football team lost yet again on Saturday, the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team what it’s had to do so often over the last few years. They gave Husker fans something to celebrate on Saturday night.

John Cook’s crew took care of business by routing Long Beach State in three straight sets, 25-18, 25-8, 25-21. Harper Murray led the way by notching 10 kills and hitting .333 but one of the things that makes this team so good is that it gets contributions from all over the roster.

Murray’s 10 kills led the Nebraska Cornhuskers but Merritt Beason had 9 kills and Andi Jackson had 8.

The win over Long Beach State could be considered a final tuneup match. Next up for the 4th-ranked Huskers is the 5th-ranked Stanford Cardinal. The two volleyball powers will face off on Tuesday night.

The match will definitely give the Nebraska Cornhuskers a chance to show that they absolutely should be considered a national title contender in 2023.

Nebraska Cornhuskers not the only B1G West team struggling

The Nebraska football team might not be off to the best start to the 2023 season, but its worth pointing out that no one in the Big Ten West is looking like a juggernaut.

Of the six teams in the division, there are only two that are undefeated, just two weeks into the season. And there’s been more than a few bad losses on the conference’s resume.

Wisconsin’s Luke Fickell came into the season as a consensus pick for best hire this offseason, but the Badgers are suffering some growing pains. They didn’t look all that dominant against Buffalo in their first game, then they went out and lost to Washington State on Saturday night, 31-22.

Pair that with Illinois’ loss to Kansas on Thursday, and only Minnesota and Iowa are 2-0. Considering the Hawkeyes needed a pick six to beat Iowa State and the Golden Gophers have som offensive problems, the division is wide, wide open.

Michigan State has the latest scandal

Late Saturday night, a brand new Big Ten scandal broke, with Michigan State’s Mel Tucker being the latest bad guy.

The report hits home for Nebraska Cornhuskers fans considering that Tucket is accused of sexually harassing activist and rape survivor Brenda Tracy. Tracy has been telling her tale of being assaulted by several Oregon State players and a recruit when he was in college.

Back in the Mike Riley era of the Nebraska Cornhuskers program, she made several trips to Lincoln to talk about her experiences. She did the same with Michigan State, though according to Tracy, Mel Tucker became romantically interested in her.

Tracy claims that things got really bad when he decided to have a little one-sided phone sex. He claims it was consensual. This story is almost certainly going to get worse before it ends.
