Jeff Sims’ John Deere NIL deal is certainly impressive, but Nash Hutmacher officially has the best Nebraska football NIL deal, but will it turn sour?

You might remember last year’s best NIL deal for a Nebraska football player when Decoldest Crawford signed a contract with SOS Heating & Cooling. It was the perfect pairing. An airconditioning company getting a deal with a man with cold in his name.

You might also remember that it was considered a great local ad campaign despite the fact that the former Huskers wide receiver was injured before the season and never played a down during his time in Lincoln.

Credit SOS for having a pretty good head for marketing. Without a player on this year’s addition of the Nebraska football team, they found the next best thing. The company announced a new deal with a man affectionately referred to as the Polar Bear. Huskers defensive lineman Nash Hutmacher is this year’s spokesperson.

Nebraska football player will need to be careful

It’s not yet fair to compare the SOS Heating & Cooling spokesperson jinx to something like the Sports Illustrated cover jinx, but the Polar Bear better be wary.

Not only did Decoldest Crawford get hurt last year and not only did he stay off the field, but he also left the Huskers after last season. Here’s hoping we don’t see anything similar with Nash Hutmacher.

The junior defensive lineman saw his most extensive action as a member of the Nebraska football team in 2022, appearing in all 12 games. In those appearances, he racked up 15 tackles. Considering the Huskers’ defense was far from good (even if it improved after the firing of Erik Chinander)

With new defensive coordinator Tony White in charge now, there’s been a lot of talk about a better, more aggressive defense. Nash Hutmacher could certainly benefit from that.

Here’s hoping the Nebraska football player is watching his Ps and Qs. No breaking mirrors, no walking under ladders, and please stay away from black cats. Just to cover all bases.
