There are all kinds of predictions about how the Nebraska football team will do this season. Some believe that Matt Rhule and company will be better than most people expect. There’s even some who think the new coaching staff and the revamped roster could upend expectations in a big way.

It doesn’t seem likely that the Nebraska football team will be worse than it has been the last few years. In that regard, Matt Rhule and company have a pretty low bar to leap in 2023. Though it’s clear even their first season isn’t going to be pressure-free.

Considering the number of people who are having a hard time pegging the Huskers entirely, its always good to see a college football analyst decide that the Cornhuskers are definitely a team on the rise.

247Sports’ Chris Hummer is one analyst who believes Rhule is going to have the Huskers rolling in no time flat. Hummer also offered up the number one reason he believes the Cornhuskers are indeed on the rise.

Nebraska football will improve in close games

Considering how the Nebraska football has lost an awful lot of its games over the last few years, fans should be quite excited to hear that close games won’t be automatic “L’s” under Matt Rhule, if Hummer is correct.

"“Rhule is a coach who’s consistently found a way to do more with less. Temple? He turned a middling program into a conference champion. Baylor? He took over one of the worst situations in recent memory and won 11 games by Year 3… This is no longer a team that continuously loses close games. It’s a program led by a coach who’s constantly figured out a way to win no matter the situation.”"

It’s a safe bet that if the analyst is right and the Nebraska football team really does figure out a way to finish games, something it hasn’t done for quite a while, then the Huskers are indeed a team on the rise.
