It’s still a long shot but the Nebraska football team at least seems to have a shot at landing one of the best edge rushers in the 2024 class.

The Nebraska football team is on a heck of a roll this summer. The fact that they’re getting commit after commit is just part of that roll. They’re also continuously making themselves contenders for some of the best players still out there.

Over the weekend, that was demonstrated again when St. Louis edge rusher Jayshawn Ross once again announced his Top 5 teams. Nebraska football is still one of those five. They’ve at least got their foot in the door.

Now they need to get more than a foot in the door, which will be quite difficult. Jayshawn Ross has long been someone that was thought to be solid to the Oklahoma Sooners. It doesn’t seem as though that’s actually changed.

Oklahoma isn’t even the only team that is standing in the way of Nebraska football. The top teams in the nation are courting the Top 150 player in the country. The last five on his list involve the Huskers, Michigan Wolverines, Penn State Nittany Lions, Tennessee Volunteers and the Sooners.

Nebraska football still in the running

Despite the top teams in the country coming hard on Jayshawn Ross, the edge rusher is clearly impressed by what Matt Rhule and his staff have done in a short period of time. Speaking to Rivals, he told the site that Nebraska football is on the come up.

He added that the staff has managed to add some real pieces to the class that are going to make the Huskers better very soon.

That doesn’t mean that what he’s seen from Nebraska football will overcome his affinity for the Sooners. But it does mean they’ve edged their way into the competition. Here’s hoping it doesn’t end the same way their fight against Alabama did on Sunday.
