Nebraska football vs the SEC

Perhaps the only thing more impressive than the Nebraska football team being undefeated against a couple of Pac 12 teams is being undefeated against a couple of SEC schools.

The SEC is arguably the best conference in college football these days. Even if the Huskers’ undefeated record against some of its teams don’t come from the last few years, there’s reason to puff up your chest and brag a bit.

Florida: The Huskers and the Florida Gators most famous matchup was in 1996 when Nebraska absolutely routed Steve Spurrier’s squad in a game that most thought Florida was going to walk away with. NU won that game 62-24 to win their second straight National Title. Husker fans know about that contest, but they might have forgotten that the two teams met in the 1974 Sugar Bowl where NU won 13-10.

Mississippi State: The Bulldogs and Huskers have faced off exactly one time. NU beat MSU 31-17 in the 1980 Sun Bowl.

LSU: Nebraska football won its first National Title thanks to a 17-12 Orange Bowl win over the Tigers. After that game, the two teams played five more times and NU went 5-0-1 in that time. The only tie was a 6-6 game in 1976.
