It’s possible that an outside linebacker recruit that had been committed to the Terapins has fallen into Nebraska football’s lap this weekend.

The Nebraska football team has been on quite the recruiting run lately. Now it appears a target the Huskers thought they lost out on is a free agent, and Matt Rhule and company are among the favorites to land him.

Justin Okoronkwo decommitted from the Maryland Terapins on Saturday night and it’s taken no time at all for Nebraska football and a few other favorites to move fast. According to Steve Wiltfong, the Huskers, Alabama, and South Carolina are the trio most likely to land the 3-star linebacker.

Despite the fact that Okoronkwo committed to the Terapins back in November of 2022, it appears that he’s had a bit of a wandering eye for a little while. The Munich, Germany prospect came and camped with the Nebraska football team this summer. According to insiders, he quite impressed Rhule and his staff.

Nebraska football the new leader?

One of the most interesting things about the decommitment of the 3-star prospect is that the other team that was expected to land him back in the day, doesn’t appear to be in the running. Even after committing to Maryland, it was thought that Michigan would be able to steal Okoronkwo away.

It doesn’t appear the Wolverines are in the running this time around. It’s possible Jim Harbaugh’s squad is simply full up at his position. Or it’s possible they dropped off as his commitment to the Terps continued.

Whatever the reason for the Big Ten squad to fade into the background, it’s not as though Nebraska football has it easy if it wants to scoop up this player. it’s in fact, never easy to beat out Alabama in a recruiting dogfight.

The real question now is just how fast Justin Okoronkwo will move now that he’s on the market again.
