Bob Stoops is big mad that anyone would compare what Nebraska football has been in the last decade and what Oklahoma might become in the SEC.

Just how bad has the Nebraska football team been in the last few years? Bad enough that Bob Stoops is taking great offense at someone making a comparison to what the Sooners could become and what the Huskers have been.

"“Those people aren’t thinking properly. Where’s Nebraska located? I heard Colin Cowherd talking about it because of recruiting and he said well Oklahoma in-state, we only sign three or four guys. Well, we’re not just Oklahoma. All the way down into Dallas is home territory for us as much as it is anybody else and that’s what they’re not taking into account. Nebraska geographically is removed a good way from any real strong fertile recruiting area, we’re not. That’s a big difference. We fit into the SEC perfectly and I believe it’s going to help us recruit and I believe we’ll handle it just fine. You can’t compare the two. It’s the offseason and they’re just filling up air time.”"

Stoops was referring to a recent segment of the Colin Cowherd show where the radio host warned OU fans that moving to the SEC might be disastrous. It’s true that one of the reasons he thinks Oklahoma might go the way of Nebraska football the last few years is because of it being harder to recruit from the SEC.

Nebraska football now makes people angry

Stoops has a point. Nebraska football moving to the Big Ten hurt recruiting because they were moving away from the conference that had Texas in it.

Just ask Matt Rhule how important Texas recruiting is to the program. He’s managed to bring it back in any real way for the first time in years.

Oklahoma is moving to the SEC, but it’s moving with Texas and joining Texas A&M. It’s certainly possible leaving Baylor and Texas Tech, and TCU behind will hurt a little bit. But it’s not the same as the Huskers jumping to the B1G.

As someone who dislikes OU on a visceral level, I’d love to see the Sooners fall apart after joining the SEC. But Bob Stoops is right that the recruiting aspect of the argument comparing his former squad to Nebraska football isn’t well thought out.
