Nebraska Cornhuskers: Alabama guard might be in play for Hoiberg’s Heroes
The Nebraska Cornhuskers could have a shot of landing a difference maker at guard if Alabama’s Jahvon Quinerly gives them a look.
You’ve got to give Fred Hoiberg credit. He continues to try to build and change his roster, even when he’s suffered a couple of recruiting losses this offseason. Of course, he’s had enough wins that there’s reason to be optimistic.
Hoiberg has added good enough transfers to his roster that the Nebraska Cornhuskers are considered to have one of the best transfer classes in the country this year. Now it appears the Nebraska basketball head coach has his eye on one more player in Alabama transfer Jahvon Quinerly.
Joe Tipton of On3 sports reported on Monday that the Crimson Tide guard plans to enter the transfer portal. When he officially does, it’s likely Hoiberg will reach out.
The 6-foot-1, 175-pound guard averaged 8.7 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists this past season for a Tide team that won 31 games and spent most of the campaign as an odds-on favorite to win the national title. Quinerly is a former five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American.
Having said all that, it would appear that the Huskers have at least some shot at landing the talented player.
Nebraska Cornhuskers ace in the hole
Normally, it would seem like an extreme long shot for Nebraska basketball to really be a player for the services of someone coming off one of the best squads in the country. However, it’s possible that Juwan Gary is a difference-maker in this derby.
Gary is returning for one final season in Lincoln. It’s possible that Quinerly, who also has one last season in college basketball, might decide it would be fun to play with a former teammate in the 2023-24 season.
Considering the time of year and how late Jahvon Quinerly entered the portal, things should move fast. And if the Nebraska Cornhuskers can add him to their crop of transfers, optimism should abound among Hoiberg’s Heroes.
